This year's celebration included a special event commemorating
the 70th anniversary of Eleanor Roosevelt's visit to Penderlea.

Al Owens, museum president, and Jimbo Robbins, vice president, kick off the museum dedication ceremony.
 

Time: 10 AM - 4 PM with a fish fry served at noon
Place: Penderlea Homestead Museum

Homestead Day centered on a fish fry and tours of the museum.
Some of the old timers were on hand to recount the early days
of the farm settlement.  Live music was performed and antique cars
were showcased. A book signing was held featuring
Carolyn Booth Rawls with her book, Between the Rivers and
Ann Southerland Cottle and her new release, The Roots of Penderlea.

Penderlea Homestead Museum Dedication

Time: 11 a.m. with a pork barbecue dinner served afterwards
Place: Penderlea Homestead Museum, 284 Garden Rd., Willard, NC

The ceremony recognized the Murphy Family, owners of the museum
building, and honor the early settlers who came to Penderlea. Special guests
were the daughters of Grey and Sula Murphy, Elizabeth "Bett" Murphy
Klavins and Frances Murphy Love, along with their children and grandchildren.
Elected officials will join us as well.
