Homestead Day June 12
Mark your calendars! The annual Penderlea Homestead
Day will be held at the Museum on Saturday, June 12.
The theme this year will be “The Families of Penderlea”.
Museum archives chairwoman, Betty Sullivan, has been
busy filling albums with the many pictures we’ve collected
over the years. We’d like to have more! To date Betty
has scanned all of the pictures that were hanging in
the back room of the Museum. The pictures will not be
rehung in order to preserve our interior walls. If you
have a picture of your Penderlea family back in the
early days of the project, please send a copy to Betty
for the display: 9452 Lyn Marie Dr. NE, Leland, NC 28451.
Homestead Day festivities will be begin at 11 o’clock
and include a barbecue dinner plates for $6 each, music
by the “Gospel Lites”, hay rides in our newly restored
farm wagon, a quilting demonstration by the “Quilters
By-the-Sea ladies who participated last year, and displays
of household artifacts, tools and implements. You’ll
especially want to see our model of a 1936 homestead,
created by member Bill Smith. Our cookbook, Recipes
and Remembrances will be on sale at a new price, and
raffle tickets will also be sold for a super deluxe
gas grill with proceeds benefitting our National Register
Fund. The visiting quilters will also offer raffle tickets
for one of their lovely quilts. Our “radio man”, David
Haase, has also agreed to bring his collection of antique
radios. The speaker this year will be one of our Sidebottom
Preservation, LLC, consultants to comment and answer
questions about the National Register Survey. We’re
still lining things up, so there may be a few surprises
in store. Send your suggestions to info@penderleahomesteadmuseum.org
. Please Come!
